Marketing was my first love, then I found branding. Branding is my passion, my lover. Branding is my master, I am its mistress. Sounds fun, right? Well, it can be. Then, SEO comes in and ruins all the fun.
As I have mentioned before I have done some sort of marketing and web publishing continuously since I was 16 (12 years), and I have had the same thorn in my side the entire time. SEO is what drags me down.
SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is an art form that I have yet to master. I have finally discovered a way to make it sexy. Search engine marketing experts can take that not so glamorous part of marketing and make it sexy.
One of my favorite mantras is to never pay someone to do something you can do yourself. Well, in this case, I can’t do it myself, and I don’t want to. (I know, that sounds bratty!) A search engine marketing firm can combine every skill set included in SEO to help insure that your website is not only on the front page of Google (or other big search engine) but also help it place in the top few spots. Some experts say that if you aren’t in the first 4 spots on Google, then you don’t exist on the internet. That’s bold!
Search engine marketing firms are not only for search engine rankings, they can also help with social media. Social media is the new way of getting attention. In today’s world, some consumers look to Facebook and Twitter before searching. This can make or break a company. Social media optimization helps insure that you are who the consumers find when looking for a new product or solution. There are many layers to social media that are hard for the novice to break through.
Even a branding dominatrix like myself needs help with some of the more technical aspects of marketing. So, enlist some help so you can concentrate on what you do best! Be your own dominatrix and let the master of SEO give you a hand.

A is for Author
I am going to brag on my Mother for a moment. She is an author, and quite an amazing one!
She has previously published poetry and sold paintings, but this is her first novel. She has been working on it for years, and is finally ready to set it free into the world. I have to say that even though her book isn’t the typical novel I read, I cannot stop reading it. I literally have to peel myself away from it to get anything done. It’ll Keep by April Mobley is truly an amazing book! Also, I had the honor of designing the logo for her publishing house. I have to say that I am quite proud of it.
It’ll Keep will be released soon. I have a surprise though; you can read the first chapter on her blog!
B is for Bowl
The people at RealSimple are pure geniuses! Who would have thought that this would actually work.
The shape of the bowl amplifies the sound, working like a pair of speakers.
C is for Change
I am in the process of changing the way I do things to a more organized system.
I will be organizing my mobile office and sharing tips for keeping organized in tight spaces and on the go.
Staying organized on the go is so important for us, even if we work from home.
I will be putting my own office into a Thirty-One All-In-One Organizer!
(I no longer need is as a diaper bag- its not girly, but it will work!)
I will also be bringing reviews to you on products and services; as well as tips on KEEPING it all organized.
I was always the most organized person I knew, so getting back to this will be great.
In fact, if I was stressed, I would empty my closet and reorganize it.
I will share one simple tip with you tonight.
Although it is simple, it is a biggie!
Always, always, always have a drop-cord of some kind.
I made the mistake once of not having one, and it was a HUGE mistake. I was working promotions for a motorcycle rally coordinator. I made t-shirts, set up photo shoots, chose models, did tech support, and worked with my dad’s business all at the same time.
To do these things, I had several pieces of equipment. A computer, printer, shirt press, and camera. It all needed power. What did I forget to pack before leaving on the 12 hour drive? A drop cord, of course. I lost a day of work, and had to go buy a heavy duty drop cord and surge protector. I have kept a regular drop cord in my computer bag ever since. I even bought a special heavy duty cord and surge protector for my gear box. I learned a hard lesson, but a lesson learned still.
Please take my advice, and make sure you always have a drop cord- you never know when you will need it.
Are there any services or products you would like me to review?
Is there any area or organization you would like me to explore?
Just comment below or head to my contact page. I am always happy to hear suggestions.

I know, that title is pretty vague, but it will all be okay.
After my post last week, FABulous Again, I began having some technical difficulties. When it rains, it pours.
1. My router messed up, and has been having temper tantrums.
2. My domain name servers were reset and NighLon began pointing to a coming soon page.
3. My Facebook has been acting up.
4. My thumb drive that I save all my work on deleted itself.
5. Yesterday, I couldn’t get into my blog, but everyone else could! #sofrustrating
But, It is all better now.
The router is half-way acting normal, and we have a new one on its way. I fixed the name server problem. FB will always act up. The lovely assistant on the phone for register.com helped me get back into my blog (it was actually a really simple solution.)
Because I have not been able to post my normal Facebook lesson, Best of the Web, or Branding lesson, I asked my blogging buddies what they would like to see on NighLon. I was given some great suggestions. I will eventually be implementing them all.
Today, I will be sharing with you how NighLon began. This is the VERY beginning of the journey.
Lets go back a whopping 13 years! (That is almost have of my life!)
I was creating my class schedule in high school. My Mother was very strict about class schedules. I thought I would be sneaky and put in cosmetology (sounded like fun to me) and a study hall. I was wrong. Instead, she made my schedule for me. I ended up with classes I didn’t really want to take. I ended up taking (along with the normal required courses) Web Publishing and Marketing.
Web publishing is still a toss up. However, I am so happy that my Mother made me take marketing. My only regret is not participating in DECA , but I really didn’t have enough time. I was spread pretty thin. In this class I learned why the milk is at the back of the store, why the magazines are at the register, and why some restaurants are neutral while others are bright colors.
This was not the beginning of my love of advertising or sociology, just the point when I started to put it all together and learn what to call it.
I don’t think my Mother knew that that one course would lead me here, I think she was just teaching me a lesson. However, I am so grateful to her for making that call and always expecting more from me.
I will share other bits of my story as time goes on.
Now onto where NighLon is going! Yes, we are sparkling!
There are some really exciting things that I am so excited to have NighLon be a part of.
- My Blogging Buddies and I are starting a Weekly Blogging Workshop. We are so excited to be critiquing each other’s blogs.

- I have a guest post in the works.
